The Handsome Lad

The Handsome Lad  by Marc Block © 2010 Glasspool Music

Travelling a lonely road heading west
Midwinter sun low in the sky
Nowhere to stop to take any rest
As it reddens and burdens my eye

I have to say I’m still feeling weird
The snow on the fields has not all disappeared
Branches reach into the dusk with twisting fingers
On the horizon the slowly fading light still lingers

Can I make it through without breaking down?
I mostly don’t these nights
Can I hold out until I reach town?
And weep by the firelight

I have to say I’m still feeling weird
The snow on the fields has not all disappeared
Branches reach into the dusk with twisting fingers
On the horizon the slowly fading light still lingers

Heading home again it’s bleak and grey
The mist clings in the creeping air
It seems it doesn’t really get light on this kind of day
The empty hedgerows are heavy with care

And I’m thinking all the time of the handsome lad
He makes me feel good, but that makes me feel bad
Man that I am
He could never want me
